IEP Review & Advocacy

IEP Review: The family provides the most recent version of the IEP and evaluation for me to review. After reviewing the documents, I sit down with the family and provide guidance and feedback on what could/should be different within the IEP to benefit their child. This is especially important and beneficial for students with significant behavioral needs (something many school teams are ill equipped to address).

IEP Advocacy: As an add on service to the IEP Review families can choose to extend my support and pay for me to attend the IEP team meeting with the school and help them better advocate for their child's needs in that context. Sometimes just having a professional join you at the table changes the tune of the district as it communicates you know your rights.

Parent Coaching

In my years working with students with intense and/or unique behaviors I have learned countless strategies that helped me not only maintain a positive classroom environment but (more importantly) helped me maintain my own sanity. I've realized that while all of the parent's I've worked with are the true experts regarding their children, most have never had the time/capacity/opportunity to learn the strategies that could allow them to experience more ease and rest within their own home. Many of the strategies are more work intensive in the beginning but pay off in HUGE ways once the patterns are established.

This service aims to support parents in this work. During our first meeting we talk through what day to day life looks like right now. After we've discussed the good and the bad, we will identify 1-3 topics to work on together. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will develop materials, teach strategies, and continue tweaking the systems until the focus areas have markedly improved.

Examples of topics/issues that could be addressed: Increasing independence of the child during daily routines (to give you time to do ANYTHING else), Increasing the adult's understanding and utilization of emotional regulation strategies (super important for your own mental health and extremely helpful when trying to model for a child who struggles with emotional regulation).

1:1 Tutoring

I meet with students either online or in their home (with parents present). When beginning tutoring, similar to parent coaching, we would begin with an initial intake meeting to identify goals and gain a solid understanding of what the student needs. I am passionate about making learning an enjoyable experience and always ready to try another creative avenue to get my students excited and engaged in their learning.

Possible areas of tutoring include: Reading, Writing, Art, Science, Social Studies, Music Exploration, Math, Problem solving, Friendship skills, Emotional Regulation, use of AAC, Routine Task Independence.

Begin Your Journey With Me

Every family’s path is unique. To make sure we choose the right kind of support, we always start with a simple inquiry. Share a bit about your child and your current situation, and together we’ll decide whether IEP support, parent coaching, or 1:1 tutoring is the best next step.
